DOK Art Gallery

DOK Art Gallery

The original 1922 timber butcher shop in Walkerston has been home to many businesses from dress shop, pizza and Chinese food. The doors were closed on the dancewear shop in 2007. The building was saved from demolition and and listed on the Qld Heritage register soon after. I was looking for somewhere to showcase my photography and was lucky to be given the opportunity to restore the inside of the building and connect the electricity. DOK Art slowly came to life and opened to the public on 11 June 2012. Photos of Birds, Landscapes & Nature are displayed in recycled railway sleepers, locally produced and handcrafted. DOK Art Gallery also offers local artists the opportunity to display their work on a consignment basis. Tourists and locals can admire handcarved timber platypus, prizewinning bird on a wire and pelicans just to name a few by artist Ron Draper. Debra Law has an amazing array of hand painted ceramic plates, bowls & glasses. Fine Beaded Jewelry designs by Nessa Joy are draped over driftwood, bringing it to life with swarovski crystal earrings, lapis lazuli necklaces & wirework is a feature along with glass beads. Well known artist Wanda Bennett has a variety of feltwork cushions and wall hangings on display. Wanda's basket weaving will also amaze and inspire. Come in and say hello and take in the ambience of the gorgeous old building. Sit back on the old chaise lounge and relax as you browse over photos that capture our local beauty.
